P-Bar Type-P Oleophobic Barrier Film and Anti-Migration Coating for Electronics, Optics, and Bearings

Detailed Information

- Product Number: P-Bar Type-P
- Base Chemistry: A stable fluorocarbon polymer dissolved in a fast-evaporating perfluoroalkane carrier solvent.
- P-Bar Type-P is actually an anti-migration barrier film (or oleophobic coating) rather than a load-bearing lubricant. Its primary purpose is to stop liquid oils and greases from creeping away from where they are needed.
- Core Function: It creates an extremely low surface energy barrier (around 10 dynes/cm) that repels oils and prevents"oil creep."Liquids cannot easily"wet"or spread across a surface treated with P-Bar Type-P.
- Concentrations Available: Typically offered in 0.2%, 1%, and 2% concentrations depending on the desired barrier film thickness.
- Key Characteristics: Anti-migration barrier film, oil creep prevention, oleophobic coating, fluorocarbon polymer.

Product Features

- Temperature Range: Withstands operational temperatures up to +200℃.
- Compatibility: Can be applied to clean metal, plastic, and glass surfaces.
- Non-Flammable: The carrier solution is non-flammable and dries rapidly at room temperature.
- Electrical Properties: Prevents environmental fouling and oil migration onto electrical contacts and printed circuit boards.

Application Fields

- Bearings & Actuators: Painted as a"dam"or ring around a bearing housing, shaft, or pivot to keep lubricating grease inside the component rather than letting it bleed out into sensitive electronics or optics.
- Optics: Used to prevent oil migration onto lenses and optical equipment (historically used on components like the mast cameras on Mars Rovers) where an oil film would ruin image refraction.
- Electrical Contacts & Potentiometers: Stops migrating oils from fouling switches, connectors, and electrical pathways.

Usage Instructions

- Do Not Lubricate Directly: P-Bar Type-P should not be applied to the actual friction surfaces (such as bearing balls, races, or electrical contact points) that require lubrication. Instead, it is applied around those areas as a perimeter barrier.
- Application Method: Can be applied via dipping, spraying, or brushing.
- Drying/Curing: Air-dries in about five minutes as the solvent evaporates. Some applications use a mild heat bake (e.g., 90℃ for 10 minutes) to improve durability, or a longer bake for vacuum outgassing reduction.
